New Domain Transfer Policy of ICANN Officially Effects Today

Today, December 1st, 2016 marks as the first day of the new updated Inter-Registrant Transfer Policy by ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) officially takes effect.

The main purpose of this policy is to keep domain names as safe as possible from domain hijackers. From now on, you will have to make email confirmations not only when transferring domain names, but also when changing any of the domain contact information.

Here are the points you need to know about this new domain transfer policy

  • If there is any change to the registrant’s first name, last name, or email address, the domain holder will be notified about it via email. If the request is legitimate, the holder would have to confirm the change.

In case you’re planning to transfer your domain, do not change any detail cause the domain name will automatically be locked for 60 days. And please read the another change below.

  • When a registrant transfer is initiated, both the current and the new registrants will be notified via an email and will have to confirm the transfer in order for it to be completed.

If either the old or the new registrants fails to confirm the transfer, the domain name will remain to its current holder. Both of the registrants will have the ability do accept or decline the transfer

Above is the two main changes in the policy, you can read the full version by clicking here.

By the way, some other domain transfer notes I recommend that you need to mention:

  • The domain should be more than 60 days old;
  • The domain was not transferred between registrars within the last 60 days;
  • The domain is “Unlocked” for transfer (“Registrar Lock” is disabled);
  • WhoisGuard is disabled;
  • The domain is showing valid and up-to-date information for the Administrative and Registrant contacts in the WHOIS.

Hope you all succeed!
